Wildlife-Packed Zimbabwe

Wildlife-Packed Zimbabwe

The return of a safari superstar. Zimbabwe is vast, it is surprising, it is wild, it is friendly. Explore the most diverse destinations from thick bush, to open grasslands to ocean-like lakes and expect the best wildlife sightings you could imagine.
OVERVIEW

AMADI’s origin lies in Zimbabwe, so this journey is very close to our hearts. We want to share only the very best with you that this magnificent country has to offer. Unlike most offerings out there, we start our wildlife adventure in the north, off the beaten track in the fairy-tale region of Mana Pools. This is where the soft light of the setting sun is glistening through large ancient trees – elephants famously reach the fruits by getting up on their hindlegs. Wildlife roams between bush and the shores of the famous Zambezi, guaranteeing the most beautiful images.

We follow the river south and spend two nights on Lake Kariba, the largest manmade lake in the world and a perfect example of nature taking back what’s hers. A surreal sight to see overflown dead trees and elephants swimming in between, you quickly appreciate the beauty of the region.  The next stop is Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s flagship nature reserve awaits with superb Big Five sightings, while Victoria Falls is the perfect finish with laid-back luxe river sunset cruises on the Zambezi and numerous other beautiful experiences to reflect on your safari extravaganza.

YOUR JOURNEY

Mana Pools

4 Nights

Your first stop of this incredible Zimbabwe adventure is Mana Pools. This wild beauty is situated on the banks of the grand Zambezi and both merge into a unique animal paradise. Be prepared to see an unmatched plethora of wildlife, small and large, in the most stunning setting. The UNESCO World Heritage site is famous for its huge elephants bulls that get up on their hindlegs to reach fruit and seeds in the large trees, which in turn form almost fairy-tale like forests close to the river banks. Here you can expect to see more elephants, hippos and crocodiles gathering in the pools to catch the first sunlight in the early morning. Look forward to extensive walks through the diverse landscape or get comfortable on a game drive vehicle watching animals large and small from the distance. Other activities include canoeing or boat trips on the Zambezi, ideal for some relaxation and more game spotting.

Lake Kariba

2 Nights

Another highlight on your journey and the perfect opportunity to combine a wildlife adventure and some “beachfront” relaxation: Matusadona National Park. This reserve is located on the shores of the vast Lake Kariba, which is so big you will feel like you’re by the ocean. The manmade lake is characterised by the hundreds of dead trees sticking out of the water, creating beautiful aesthetics, especially with the sun setting or rising in the early morning hours. This is also a great time to watch elephants, hippos and crocodiles congregating on the shores of the lake. Lake Kariba is an extremely interesting example of how nature regained its power and has completely taken over this beautiful area again with a plethora of wildlife and vegetation.

Hwange National Park

3 Nights

Your next stop is Hwange National Park, the largest wildlife reserve in Zimbabwe and home to the Big Five. Only a few hours away from Victoria Falls, it’s the perfect spot to explore a completely different landscape in Zimbabwe, ranging from bush to grassland and forest. Especially in dry season (June-October), animals congregate around the waterholes, an ideal opportunity to spot elephants, lions, buffalo, leopards and with a bit of luck even a black rhino. The landscape is mainly characterised by mopane forests and grasslands, which you will roam either in a game drive vehicle or on foot. More highlights include the local African Wild Dog population and nocturnal animals like the aardvark or pangolins.

Victoria Falls

2 Nights

Your last stop is one of the Seven Natural World Wonders. The Victoria Falls that leave us human beings in awe and teach us the overwhelming grandeur of nature. The origin of Victoria Falls, the Zambezi River, is an attraction in itself, with a myriad of beautiful experiences. While most visitors expect a guided tour of the Falls to be the absolute highlight, they will be surprised by how many more activities can fill their days here. Learn to cook like a local on the shores of the Zambezi, go on a beautiful sunset cruise passing by elephants, hippos and crocs or cross the Victoria Falls Bridge to Zambia in a historic tram. Our favourite hangout is the ultra-stylish Zambezi House with an interior you would normally expect in Cape Town or Lagos.
